MADIBA MAGIC ! A World diminished ?

Nelson Mandela strode the World Stage , head and shoulders above ALL, because of his HUMILITY ! A Truly Inspirational Human Being , that no matter what i say , will encapsulate the effect , that he has had on so many lives ? Can anyone relate a story that does not pay tribute to his strength of Character ?

  " Madiba is gone. A great and inspirational leader died at the age of 95 and it is not overdrawn to say:  the world is crying and mourning."

Inspirational comments attributed to him include :

 “I learned that courage was not the absence of fear, but the triumph over it. The brave man is not he who does not feel afraid, but he who conquers that fear.”

Last night i was looking for news of the " Ashes ", that series of Cricket Games that at present , is being played out in Adelaide , between a sadly diminished English Team , as Holders of the " Urn " and the Aussie Team , who have regained the Ascendancy in this series . Today i see after several hours of no news , the Teams marking a period of Silence before commencing their game . The passing of Nelson Mandela , a true Cognisseur of Cricket was an International Moment . It will be a day that generations will look back on and remember , where they were , just as the passing of Jack Kennedy and the Landing on the Moon ?

Seeing tributes from World Leaders , interruption at the United Nations General Assembly Meetings and the scenes outside the Mandela Johannesberg Residence , fails to convey how impactful Nelson Mandela's personality has dominated the World since his release from Prison in 1990 .

Liks so many , i recall being outside the South African High Commission in Trafalgar Square in the mid 1960s , a time when " Anti Apartheid Demos " were an every weekend occurence . Doubt that i really knew who Nelson was or his fellow ANC Colleagues were , but i was there amongst the crowds , wishing that Sport was being interupted by the way a Government was treating it's Citizens ?

Whilst passing through South Africa in early 1970s , i saw plenty of evidence in Cape Town , Jo'berg and Durban , of how there were several different classes of Citizens . Toilets , Busses and Buildings displayed signage , advising how , where and what a HUMAN BEING , could exist in the Legal framework of the Community . In my early to mid 20s , i was seeing a little of the same , at home in Australia , but there , it was the Aboriginal Community being Ghettoed in Redfern and other pockets of Australia . Of course the World Community was rampant towards South Africa , because there was a Visible Public Policy , whilst in Oz , it was just neglect of a section of the community deserving of BETTER !

As yet , i have not seen mention of Gandhi , who was reputed to be an inspiration for a young Nelson Mandela ? It would inspire him to display a " Sense of Forgiveness " throughout his extraordinary life . This man deserves more recognition than that displayed in the Media . This tweet sums up my thoughts :

  " His sense of humour was always near the surface. For some time before our visit he had had access to newspapers and magazines, but we were talking to a person who had essentially been cut off from the world for the best part of 27 years.
In winter it was bitterly cold. For warmth he had a blanket which, if you held it up to the light, you could see through. How could a man endure what he had endured without a sense of grievance or bitterness, without any sourness towards the world outside?
He befriended his jailers, who came to respect him greatly. He had a sense of charity to everyone. He did not harbour grudges about past injustices or wrongs, but was concerned only to find a way forward, how to build a better South Africa.
While he could speak openly about his personal views, there were limits to what he would or would not say. The Freedom Charter which had been negotiated in 1955 was out of date, almost archaic in some of its provisions. As we spoke to many people throughout South Africa and asked why it had not been kept up to date, made relevant to changing circumstances, the answer was always the same: how can we without Nelson Mandela?
When we asked Mandela what changes ought to be made, he said he could give only a personal view which might not be definitive because he would need to consult his colleagues. He had not had access to them in many a long year, but their views were very important to him. He had a very significant sense of due process and of respect for others.
At that first visit he knew that changes were afoot. His very removal from Robben Island to Pollsmoor indicated that the government wanted him to be in better circumstances. They knew that to find a settlement they would need Mandela.

It would have been so easy for somebody who had endured, as he had endured, to take the view that white South Africa should make restitution for the harm done for the past wrongs, for the great injustice inflicted upon the overwhelming majority.
To Mandela such views were looking backwards. The past had to be washed out of their hair. All South Africans had to look forward and they could only do that if they were to create a South Africa in which one law applied to all.
Was it realism that led him to this view, the knowledge of past mistakes? Or was it something innate, born in the very nature of the man that determined his attitude to other people? Perhaps both, but he knew what had to happen if South Africa was to find a way forward.
His sense of forgiveness and of justice was immense. His sense of equity was absolute. For Mandela politics was a matter of high principle and of steadfast purpose. He did not need polls or focus groups. He knew what was right, he knew what had to be done. If it was a difficult issue, if it needed persuasion, he would argue the harder, marshal his point of view and win the day.

He knew government was about the exercise of judgment, but judgment based on a basic respect for people who would understand if a good argument was put to them.


When CARE Australia had three of its employees jailed during the war in Kosovo, Mandela was one of the first people to whom I appealed. Can you please lend your weight, your influence to assist in their release? He did not hesitate. I believe he knew what I stood for and the work CARE Australia was doing, and that was enough.
How does one judge his place in history? Of all the people I have met, he was by far the greatest. I do

Respect, concern, compassion a belief in the best of our natures as human beings was central to the way Mandela approached every problem. He was central to the process of change in South Africa. He unified the disparate groups within South Africa. Even the tribal leaders, such as Chief Buthelezi of the Zulus, followed Mandela. Black South Africa was able to establish a unified position in negotiations with the government.
President F.W. de Klerk had believed fervently in apartheid and sought to justify it on practical and philosophical grounds. It is a measure of de Klerk's practicality and acceptance of the need for change, but also of Mandela's greatness, that de Klerk came to believe that in a majority ruled South Africa there would be no retribution yet justice for all. Mandela was able to persuade de Klerk that white South Africans would have a legitimate place in the new South Africa. That was essential to the peaceful change that occurred.
Now South Africa grieves, as does the whole world. We need to remember his achievements and his essential character, which made those achievements possible. We can learn from his example. He leaves a legacy that all subsequent leaders should seek to emulate."

OBAMA in Oz whilst O W S gets whacked !

Conveniently out of the Country whilst the Constitution gets abused does not absolve Obama from responsibility ! To date the “ Mailed Fist ” has been nothing more than “ Riot Gear dressed ” Police followed by trucks to collect the property of the O W S protestors . These “ valued items ” have been trashed to the extent that little has been deemed recoverable . The “ O W S Library ” has a few salvaged items from the many thousands of books “ donated ” !

Whoever is responsible for the coordination of the various O W S Camps being cleared must have authority from higher up the food chain . Suggestions are that the “ Dept. of Homeland Security ” are responsible and if so it begins to make the allegations of “ 911 ” being an “ undercover government plot ” seem more likely than previously thought !

Reading a responsible Journal such as the Guardian and repeatedly finding articles such as this gives any thinking human being cause for concern :

Of course there are many other less respected news outlets that have formed similar points of view but regardless of a person’s political persuasion they must be feeling uneasy about what is happening in their “ FREE SOCIETY ”! Appears that a person’s vote is worthless when those they elected are able to circumvent the Established System to their own benefit ?

Yesterday after visiting the Innsbruck Dental Clinic I found the “ Occupy Innsbruck ” encampment on the riverside park opposite the “ Old Town ” , several tents as will be seen from the photos I will post later when “ broadband ” allows . There at the time were two Italians who would be able to converse with passers-by in English , German and Italian , articulate although not neatly dressed they advised that there were about 20+ sleeping on site but away at their “ Full Time Employment “ during the day . Weekends and evenings are a busier time but no where near the thousands that have been found elsewhere . Whilst not seeing these people it could be concluded that they are responsible people rather than the “ Unemployable Hippies ” as sections of the media attempt to portray them !

Innsbruck Authorities are to be congratulated on their “ Laissez Faire ”

approach to the encampment since they appear to have given permission until the 29th December but one wonders what will take place at that time . The site was clean and tidy although the insides of the tents appeared to be a bit of a jumble . Should this be an example of “ Occupy Movement ” sites elsewhere , then the actions in Zuccotti Park , New York were entirely “Extreme Harassment ” and brings those Authorities into disrepute !

Occupy Movements could have died out earlier had other authorities not thrown “ fuel of publicity ” at the movement thus giving the media the spectacle that the world has been enjoying these past few months .

President Obama , why does your Government denigrate those in the Middle East when NIMBI’s in your country are using the same tactics ?

Note that this item is coming from the main stream media so there must be some substance in this matter for Washington Post to go against the Establishment and broadcast this significant information .
In 2008 Barack Obama was using the by-line “YES WE CAN ” ! Now that he is President he is sympathising with the #OWS and had made some of his views public . What is he saying in private ? Is there any possibility that he is saying to the various “ Local Authorities ” when they seek advice about clearing the #Occupy sites “ Yes You Can ” ? It would be naïve to think that there are the likes of the Mayor of Oakland who set off for Washington unaware that her new Police Chief was going to throw “ fuel on the flames ” and turn a relatively minor “ local event ” into a WORLDWIDE Media Storm ?

Day after day we are seeing those that were elected seek the easiest route to landing their constituents with the costs and eventually “ punitive damages ” brought about by illegal behaviour by those employed to enforce “ law and order ”in their neighbourhood ! The silent majority of US citizens must be watching with horror what is taking place and many will be fearful of the consequences as are those around the world .

Friday is the weekly holy day for those who have recently won their freedom in Egypt and it appears they will be demonstrating outside the US Consulate in Cairo thus letting the world know that #OWS has support outside the USA !

What is Hilary Clinton going to say to the Egyptian Government if the matter gets out of hand ? When I listen to her speak I get the impression that she speaks as the idea occurs to her . She rarely manages more than a few words without “ah” popping into the sentence ! An example : “I think that “ah” it would be a good idea if “ah” the two sides could “ ah” sit down And “ah” listen to each “ ah” others “ah” ideas and decide to “ah” cooperate ! Have a lot of time for her efforts but it makes me wonder if she does enough preparation before getting in front of the media ?

Scott Olsen a two tour veteran of Iraq may have been in the wrong place at the wrong time BUT why were the Police at a peaceful event armed as though they were “gang busters” breaking in on a “Crack Factory ”?

Latest tweet suggested that he was recovering as his condition has been reported by the hospital as “ Fair ” today , after being admitted in “ Critical condition ” ! Can anyone condone the Police firing tear gas at the people who were resuscitating him ? Were those “ faceless morons ” trying to make sure that he died from the injuries they inflicted ? Reports of people wanting to report the matter to the Hague will prove to be unnecessary since the “ You.tube ” report has gone viral worldwide ! It remains to be seen whether Tear Gassing by the police is treated as Chemical Warfare , should that be the case then “ Crimes against Humanity ” could become an issue , then the Lawyers will have a field day !

Several years ago there was a Court Settlement for millions relating to actions in Washington and I am sure Mayor Bloomberg is having restless nights recently after the events on George Washington bridge amongst the many occasions that the NYPD have overstepped the limit and set out to provoke a response to justify their cowardly behaviour .

Why is the USA a country that claims to be the home of the FREE , continually telling the rest of the world to treat their citizens more fairly and THEN treating their citizens like “ serfs ”? Thought it was the USSR that were behaving in that fashion ?

Serfdom in the 21st century.
The concentration of wealth in the hands of so few is a symptom of something much more disturbing. For several generations western governments have been colluding with the financial and corporate sectors to redefine the role of the populace. With the support of the media, we the populace have slowly but surely been transformed from citizens to whom government is accountable - to consumers to whom no one is accountable. This shift is pervasive throughout every sector of society. As consumers our role is to keep the machine running and running and running. Never mind that the jobs have been shipped offshore we are still expected to keep buying and consuming. No matter that we are exhausting our personal and planetary resources, being tossed from our homes and living on credit. Our capacity to consume is our only value to both the government and their global partners.

Each person who has turned out for the occupations has their own story of abandonment and disrespect. While the stories will vary the root cause does not. Whether we realize it or not, we are no longer citizens. We are biological units who have been groomed to consume. If you are inclined to question this just take a look at the pharmaceutical ads. They are chilling in their content. How do they get to sell that poison to us? ”

As I grew up I had ambitions , and as the years passed the Goal Posts moved and I went through difficult times and had periods of success also . In my 67th year I am wondering if I am going to be able to support my good health since I made investments in a variety of areas and ALL have failed . Nearly everyone I come across these days are in the same boat so I am unable to complain and anyway who would listen ?

Through the years I had occasion to use the “ Stock Market ” to make investments and it was just another glorified “ Casino/Poker Machine ”! The only people making real money there are the Stock Brokers . Each transaction has a percentage whether it is a Buy order or a Sell order . Some of the guys working on the floor in the Sydney Stock Market could tell a story or two that would make you wonder if there were EVER any ethics in their business . One guy , lets call him Kevin was the epitome of a “ spiv ” , greasy hair , rumpled suit , fag hanging out of the mouth , looking dismayed that he didn’t do the business that you were hoping for . Pockets stuffed with paper with scribbled notes which he obviously shuffled throughout the two hour session as he tried to do the business .

In the pub he would tell a good yarn and let drop a few ideas that some of the punters such as myself might think worth pursuing . Naturally you would do well to be cautious because he gave the impression of a “ scam merchant ”, so a small investment at first to test the temperature and as the action unfolded maybe more investment . Guess it was a game of getting enough people interested so that the stock became a self fulfilling prophecy and then the afternoon papers would pick up on it and then the cab drivers would dive in for the ride .

Recent years the stock market surges and dives DAILY so nobody has the faintest idea of where the money is and thus the Broking Houses just sit back and rake in the commissions . Presently even if I had the cash I would think long and hard about risking money in that cesspit !
